This is the saliva test to check for candida overgrowth. It isn't totally reliable but can give an indication of the presence of candida.
- First thing in the morning, before anything is put in the mouth (including toothpaste), fill a clear glass with water
- Work up some saliva, and spit into the water
- Check the water every 15 minutes for up to an hour (you may need to hold the glass against a plain surface to see the saliva clearly)
- If you see strings travelling into the water from the saliva on top, or cloudy saliva which sinks to the bottom of the glass or cloudy specks in the water, this indicates an overgrowth of candida
- If the saliva is still floating after one hour, you have candida under control
